Take-out

Green Bamboo, Re-visited

Way back in September 2009, I wrote a post on Green Bamboo Vietnamese Cuisine. Since then the owner/chef has been continually tweaking his menu with new and delicious items. As Green Bamboo has become my favorite local, I thought it deserved an updated post.

Green Bamboo is located on Willingdon Avenue, just south of Kingsway in Burnaby. They are street-level next to the ever popular Han Ju Tofu Hot Pot. The room is quite small, usually steamy and plastered with droolworthy photos of their dishes. Last summer while I was outside checking out the pics, the owner came out and promptly recommended the Grilled Pork Vermicelli Rice Bowl. Turned out to be a fantastic dish. For the last year or so I’ve slowly been making my way through the quite large and varied menu. I have my standbys, but there’s so much more…

Hot Oven Pizza and Pasta

As my food-blogging has been geared more towards seeking out great Asian fare, I’ve lost track of where to go for some great pizza. My regular delivery is from Pizza Factory on 6th St. in Burnaby…they make a damn fine pie. One of their other locations (on Kingsway, attached to Saffron) has the biggest and best slices I’ve ever tasted.

Last year, Sherman posted about Hot Oven Pizza & Pasta and their hefty pizzas. The one part of his review that stuck out was that this place makes a big pizza. This isn’t deep-dish but comes real close.

Hot Oven is located in one of those places you’ll probably blast right past if you didn’t know it was there. It’s on the southwest corner of Holdom & Hastings in North Burnaby.

The small space they inhabit is primarily for take-out and delivery. One fellow making the pies…another helping out and making deliveries. I placed my take-out order and was told it would take 30 minutes. Usually, that’s a delivery time. That means, to me, these guys are busy…a good sign.

Today’s choice was the Hot Oven Select. For a first-time visit, ya gotta go with the za with the place name!
